The Penguin Travel Club

It all begins with an idea. The two of us are on a ship- sailing to an adventure we had never dreamed of doing that somehow became reality. You don't know another soul on board but everyone is excited about the remote and magical destination- Antarctica. By chance on day two, you meet the most charming people during a sea day wine tasting. That leads to dinner- and somewhat sheepishly at desert I pull the ruffled little penguin from my pocket and add him to a picture. And that started the bond. For the remainder of the trip, we had two new family members that helped care for the little penguin and assured that he was in as many photos as possible. Somewhere along the way, we realized this was too much fun to just let it end- and thus the Penguin Travel Club was born….

Pen-Guin

I do not know why, but I have always been more comfortable looking through the viewfinder of a camera rather than being posed with the camera pointing at me. Maybe the perception of what the two dimensional picture will make me look like. Maybe I realized one day I now look older! Regardless, I needed a solution. That solution is my travel buddy- Pen-Guin. We met in the gift shop of the Shed Aquarium in Chicago and have been mostly inseparable ever since. He is always happy to be in a photos- even if somewhat bedraggled from being stuffed in the pocket of a camera bag. He is also fearless when posed on railings or less than stable zodiacs. Other the years- we have added a few friends for him. Most recently, he missed the plane to Montreal and so we adopted a a new friend for him at the Biodôme.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
